There is no single CSC deadline. The popular advice to “apply by the end of March” can cost an applicant an entire year.
The Chinese Government Scholarship operates through several routes. An embassy, authorised organisation, university, CGSIS and entrance exam may all use different dates. The form may still be open after the university has stopped accepting candidates.
As of 17 August 2026, many countries and universities have not published their complete 2027 calendars. This guide explains which deadlines matter and how to avoid treating last year’s date as current.
Why one deadline does not exist
CSC is not one admissions office with one closing date. The process may involve:
- the China Scholarship Council;
- an embassy or authorised organisation for Type A;
- a Chinese university for Type B;
- an internal faculty committee;
- HSK and CSCA examination systems.
Any participant may set a deadline earlier than the technical closure of CGSIS.
Type A: start with your country
Type A is normally submitted through an authorised organisation, embassy or bilateral programme. That organisation publishes:
- available degree levels;
- the national quota where disclosed;
- required documents;
- internal selection stages;
- submission date;
- the method for forwarding applications to CSC.
A deadline in one country does not apply to another. Even within one country, different ministries or programmes may use different calendars.
Look for the notice from the Chinese embassy, ministry of education or named authority. If the 2027 notice is not available, use the 2026 page only as a rough indication of the month.
Type B: the university deadline comes first
Type B applications normally require:
- a CGSIS application;
- a separate university application;
- sometimes an additional faculty or supervisor procedure.
The university deadline matters even if CGSIS still allows you to create a form. Once internal selection has ended, a late government form does not reopen it.
Check the official sections for international students, admissions and scholarships.
How many deadlines can one application have?
A real applicant may track eight:

“31 March” means nothing without the name of the stage it belongs to.
A working 2027 preparation calendar
These are planning periods, not official deadlines.
August–October 2026
- choose programmes;
- check HSK and CSCA requirements;
- begin translations and document certification;
- draft the study plan;
- find out whether a supervisor is required.
November–December
- monitor early Type B announcements;
- check embassy and ministry websites;
- take exams with time for score release;
- create application accounts without submitting an unfinished package.
January–March 2027
- main application volume;
- national Type A deadlines;
- university Type B deadlines;
- interviews and extra requests.
April and later
Some self-funded programmes and separate scholarships may remain open. Relying on April for the full choice of CSC programmes is dangerous.
How to verify a date in five minutes
Find the official document for the current intake and check:
- admission year;
- funding programme name;
- degree level;
- date and time zone;
- whether two systems must be completed;
- whether the language result must exist at submission;
- whether scholarship and self-funded deadlines differ.

If the 2027 notice is not published
Do not wait. Prepare everything that does not depend on the final date:
- a passport with sufficient validity;
- academic documents;
- translation and apostille;
- study-plan draft;
- recommendations;
- language tests;
- university shortlist;
- application-fee budget.
When the notice appears, you should be changing a programme name and two paragraphs, not beginning to locate your diploma.
Can you apply through Type A and Type B?
The system and individual programmes set limits on applications and routes, and those limits may change. Do not treat an old number from another person’s guide as permanent.

Five calendar mistakes
- Treating the technical CGSIS closure as the university deadline.
- Taking HSK a week before application without checking score-release time.
- Submitting only CGSIS and forgetting the university portal.
- Ordering a time-limited medical document too early or too late.
- Missing a scholarship deadline that comes before self-funded admission.
A control system
Create a table and set reminders 30, 14, 7 and 2 days before each date. Store the official page and your last check date.
When a deadline changes, record the new date beside the old one. This prevents you from submitting from memory after a website update.
Bottom line
The most dangerous admission date is one repeated without naming the route. CSC has a network of deadlines, and any one of them can stop your application.
Start monitoring in autumn 2026. In January, the advantage belongs not to the applicant who found a “secret quota,” but to the one with completed documents and a verified calendar.
